Empower Cumbria Limited is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff, volunteers, and partners to share this commitment.
As part of our recruitment process, rigorous safeguarding checks are conducted, including obtaining references and undertaking Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks. Many of our roles are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 due to the nature of our work.

Modern Slavery & Human Trafficking
Empower Cumbria is committed to preventing slavery and human trafficking in its operations and supply chains. With zero tolerance for slavery, Empower enforces ethical business practices through policies such as robust recruitment checks and mandatory staff training. Due diligence procedures are in place to identify, monitor, and mitigate risks, and any non-compliance by suppliers results in immediate termination of relationships.
Modern Slavery & Human Trafficking Statement
This Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement is a response to Section 54(1), Part 6 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and relates to actions and activities for the financial year ending 31 March 2024.
Empower Cumbria Limited ('the Company', 'we', 'us' or 'our') is committed to preventing slavery and human trafficking violations in its own operations, its supply chain, and its services. We have zero-tolerance towards slavery and require our supply chain to comply with our values.

We operate a number of internal policies to ensure that we are conducting business in an ethical and transparent manner.

Recruitment and selection policy - It clearly outlines the recruitment process, including job interviews and background checks. We verify the legal right to work for all prospective employees and implement robust checks to prevent exploitation of vulnerable individuals
Moderns Slavery and Human Trafficking Training - All staff are required to complete this mandatory training during their induction and probationary period.
We make sure our suppliers are aware of our policies and adhere to the same standards.

Risk and Compliance
We do not tolerate slavery and human trafficking in our supply chains. Where there is evidence of failure to comply with our policies and procedures by any of our suppliers, we will seek to terminate our relationship with that supplier immediately.
Training Staff
The Company requires its staff to complete training and ongoing refresher courses on slavery and human trafficking. The Company's training covers:
How to identify the signs of slavery and human trafficking.
What initial steps should be taken if slavery or human trafficking is suspected.
How to escalate potential slavery or human trafficking issues to the relevant parties within the Company.
